Restoring the Light at LCL Bank, Nancy

Restauration du dôme à la Banque LCL

The LCL Bank on Rue Saint-Georges in Nancy is known for its 250 m² glass canopy. The Art Nouveau glass fills the space with violet and turquoise light, even on grey days.

The building was designed in 1901–1902 by Jacques Gruber, the same artist who created the glass dome at Galeries Lafayette in Paris. The bank has recently completed a 15-month refurbishment, which included restoring the canopy’s 564 glass panels.

During an inspection, asbestos mastic was found in the lead joints that hold the glass pieces together. Les Ateliers Jean Salmon, based in Lorry-les-Metz, were responsible for the glass restoration but had not worked near asbestos before.

Asteck France joined the project to provide assistance for working in the presence of asbestos. We built a controlled clean area with a decontamination tunnel, supplied specialist equipment, and trained the team to work safely. The cleaning and restoration were carried out under SS4 methodology, ensuring full safety and compliance.

This project shows how collaboration and safety expertise can protect both people and heritage.
